Ann’s Letters : Four

ann0220-1

It’s been awhile, I know, but I’m so excited today to write about the fourth letter I received from Ann at the beginning of February. As I mentioned in my last letter entry back in December that I had not received a letter from her since August. There were definitely a few times I worried and wondered what her family had been up to and if everyone was alright. I would check the news and make sure Uganda wasn’t mentioned too much but with constant news about surrounding countries how could I not worry?

Then, a few weeks ago, I got my mail and saw THE envelope. The letters from Uganda look a little different from the typical letters from Child Fund so I knew instantly. I was beyond excited to open it up and not only see a letter from Akiding Mary but also a photo of her and Ann! I was with one of my friends at the time and instantly showed him the photo and started talking about Ann. Yea, it’s no lie, I’m a pretty proud sponsor! haha.

The letter was pretty short and simple again (but I don’t mind as I’ve mentioned before). Ann’s mother wrote that they received my “gift” for Christmas which was just a $50 donation. She mentions that it was over $100 in their currency and enough to buy Ann a mattress to sleep on and a blanket. This made me beyond happy! I often wonder what Ann is left without… food, water, a place to sleep, shoes? I know these are all very common issues in Uganda and other parts of the world. I have noticed that in my original photo of Ann she did not have shoes… the new one she does. And now to hear that my donation was enough for her to have something to sleep on – wow. Seriously, we throw around money like crazy in the U.S. and to think a simple $50 seriously made such a difference in someone’s life. It seriously makes me speechless.
